# Understanding Plans and Subscriptions

Railnology has two levels of subscription that work independently but complement each other: a personal account tier and an organization tier. Understanding which level controls which features helps you know where to go when you need to upgrade or manage billing.

### Personal Account Tier

Your personal account tier controls what you can do as an individual Railnology user, independent of any organization you belong to. You can view and change your personal tier from **Account → Settings → Account Information → Change**.

| **Railroad**   | Dedicated database, unlimited members, SSO, custom carrier rule configuration, and a dedicated account manager.                      | $499/month, annual billing |

### Organization Tier

Your organization's tier controls what your entire team can access together. Organization tier is managed by the Org Admin from **Org Admin → Org Settings**.

| **Standard**        | Base org features — team membership, basic compliance tools                                                           |

| **Enterprise**      | Everything in Professional plus a dedicated database for complete data isolation                                      |
| **Holding Company** | Multi-property compliance management for holding companies overseeing multiple railroad subsidiaries                  |

### How the Two Levels Relate

A user's personal tier and their organization's tier are independent. A user on the Individual personal plan can be a full member of a Professional organization — their personal tier does not limit what they can access within the org.

For most teams, the organization tier is the primary subscription to manage. The personal tier matters most for independent rail professionals using Railnology without an organizational context.

### Billing Portal

Both personal and organization subscriptions are managed through the Stripe billing portal, accessible via **Manage Billing & Invoices →** in Account → Settings → Subscription & Billing.
