# How Railroad Lookup Works

RailID lookup allows an FRA-licensed railroad to request access to a worker's verified credentials. The process is worker-controlled — the railroad cannot view any information without the worker's explicit approval.

## The Lookup Flow

1. The worker shares their RailID number (format: RID-YYYY-NNNNN) directly with the railroad
2. The railroad's administrator enters the RailID number in the RailID Lookup screen
3. The railroad selects which credential types they want to view
4. A verification request is sent to the worker
5. The worker reviews the request and approves or denies it
6. If approved, the railroad can view a verified credential snapshot valid for 30 days

## Privacy Protection

A railroad can only look up a worker if the worker has shared their RailID number and has Allow Railroad Lookups enabled in their Privacy Settings. Workers can disable railroad lookups at any time.
